Dr Tom Pitts was recently in Spain teaching a group of orthodontist. Below is the email from Dr Paco Perdron
We are very honored that Tom Pitts had given a course in my office. It was great. The best orthodontists of Spain assisted and even an orthodontist came from Holland.
We learnt a lot with Tom “pata negra orthodontics” (translation “the best of the best in orthodontics”) and we realised that we have to continue learning a lot to reach his level. His teachings are always more than welcome to us.
All the participants have been sending mails of agreement for the quality of the course and Tom´s personality.
I will be always very grateful with Tom and all the members of the group.
Love to all,

On Sunday March 14, 2010, the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada taught the power of positive thinking and confidence to girls K-12. Uniquely Me Two stressed the importance recognizing one’s strengths and best attributes, handling peer pressure, healthy eating habits, hygiene, general wellness, exercise, and identifying core values and personal interests.
Tonya, Tami, Kori, Jillian, Sierra, and Candy all worked the PITTS I LOVE MY SMILE! booth. About 150 girls spun the wheel and answer a few questions about their smile or their friend’s smile. After answering we gave them a goodie bag with a mirror, chap stick and inspirational quote inside. Thank you to all who participated and congratulations to our contest winners.

DENTAL CARE THAT DOES MORE THAN STRAIGHTEN TEETH
BY THOMAS R. PITTS, D.D.S.
Before and After a Damon 'Bracelift'
AS WE GROW OLDER, MANY Of us turn to expensive and invasive cosmetic treatments ranging from lip augmentations to facelifts in an effort to retain a youthful appearance.More and more adults, however, are now turning to less traumatic orthodontic treatments as an anti-aging tool and are gaining not just a beautiful smile, but some remarkable facial aesthetics, as well.“Bracelift” treatments can help you look younger and feel more confident about your appearance than ever before. Of course, most people want a nice smile with straight, white teeth, but properly aligned teeth can do much more than just improve a smile. By enhancing the alignment and widening the arch of the teeth, orthodontic treatment can create better facial balance and aesthetics, lending the appearance of fuller cheeks and lips, smoother and higher cheek contours, and broader smiles, as well as compensate for the inevitable loss of facial muscle over time. This spring, Dr. Pitts delivered the keynote at the Damon Forum in Taiwan. He spoke about the famous “Pitts Smile,” the aesthetic gold standard for orthodontists, and the importance of meeting the American Board of Orthodontics’ standards. The quality of finishing for each case is evaluated using the Objective Grading System, created in 1993 by nine orthodontists.
Evaluating work under these standards can be quite a challenge. Dr. Pitts and his secrets to excellent finishing were featured in “News and Trends in Orthodontics.”
Over 40 people showed up on 4/24 and another 9 more RSVP’ed. Awesome. Thanks for helping us make this event a HUGE success. We all had a great time and it was for a really good cause.
Hats off to all of our staff members that donated their time the day of the event!

There is nothing good about having a child with Type I Diabetes. And this year marks the seventh year that our son Hunter has been living with a disease that is, well, the pits — 24/7! But every year when October rolls around and it’s time again for the JDRF Walk, I’m reminded of just how lucky we are to have so many amazing friends who, without fail, show up in the Quad at UNR to show their support for Hunter and our family. This year, team It’s The Pitts raised $10,000.00. Dozens of our friends and family, the staff at Pitts Orthodontics — and lots of their friends — showed up bright and early on a frigid Sunday morning to raise money for juvenile diabetes research. In the past six years, since Hunter was diagnosed, together we’ve raised $150,000.00. It’s humbling to realize how many people are rallying for us and all the other kids who live with this disease every day. All we can say is thank you.
Thank you Dr Arnie Pitts and Dr Mark Handelin for your continued dedication and support to children in the Northern Nevada community. Thru the Northern Nevada Dental Health Program the Dr’s have helped many children who other wise would be unable to obtain dental care. What an accomplishment!!!
Team Pitts has had the priveledge to educate many students over the last few months. Mouthful of Science has brought many students into our office for a time of learning and fun. While at Pitts Orthodontics, students rotate through six science stations in the clinical laboratory, operatory and radiographic areas of the clinic. In each area, Pitts Orthodontic staff and doctors provide interactive opportunities for the students to learn about science. Each station is designed to meet WCSD educational standards for science. Meeting each student and working hands on with the students has been a very fun experience for our team. Our team has enjoyed meeting teachers and chaparones from many schools all who make this educational
oppurtunity come to life.
